Green Tea May Help Reduce Calories and Fight Fat!
| |
If you want to reduce your calories and fight fat while sipping a refreshing drink, look no further than the lowly green tea.
A recent study showed that people who drank a bottle of tea fortified with green tea extract every day for three months reduced more body fat than those who drank a bottle of regular oolong tea. And mind you, oolong tea is already fat-free to begin with.
Researchers say the results indicate that substances found in green tea known as catechins may trigger weight loss by stimulating the body to burn calories and thus reduce body fat. |
Catechins are substances that have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties, but recent research in animals show that catechins may also affect body fat accumulation and cholesterol levels.
Americans regularly drink beverages like sodas, fruit juices and iced tea. These beverages can add a substantial chunk of calories to the diet.
Drinks high in calories, fat or sugar can contribute to obesity, tooth decay and a variety of other health problems.
A 12-ounce can of regular soda, for example, adds 120 to 140 calories and zero nutrients to the diet. Although natural fruit juices are a more healthful choice, they can also tally up calories quickly. For instance, a cup of cranberry juice cocktail with sugar contains 147 calories.
So if you're on the prowl for the drink that will give zero calories and impart possible health benefits, green tea trumps these high-calorie beverages.
With green tea seemingly manifesting a new health property - fighting fat - there seems to be less and less reason to avoid this ancient brew and incorporating it into one's everyday diet.
While government researchers haven't confirmed all of the health benefits of green tea, some reports from reputable sources have come out with conclusions that indeed, this beverage is rich in anti-oxidant healing properties. An American Institute for Cancer Research-funded report claimed for example that green tea contained a substance called EGCG, that may "short-circuit" the development of cancer.
A lot of Americans are in fact on the lookout for just such health benefits. With all the environmental and dietary factors that permeate everyday life in American society, many citizens are looking for a sort of "magic pill" that could clear away many of the disease-bearing substances encountered in everyday living. And it seems green tea is largely seen as that "magic pill".
So if anything, green tea is expected to penetrate deeper into American society's consciousness in the months and years to come. It might not be far-fetched to imagine a time when young Americans in their lunch breaks hold designer green tea beverage instead of Cokes and Pepsis. |
