Organic astragalus can be sold as an organic product because it has met several criteria as laid out by the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Organics Program.  Essentially, any organic crops need to be grown free from chemical synthetic pesticides, and the land upon which they grow must also be free of synthetic chemicals for a certain period of time, typically three or more years, before the ground can be used for organic crop production.  When these and other qualifications have been met by the producer, organic astragalus may be listed as organic after it receives certification from a state certifying agency.

As mentioned above, organic astragalus herb is a legume, and as such has the ability to fix nitrogen in the soil.  The Organic Astragalus Root has tiny nodes on it that have the capacity to capture nitrogen from the air and place it in the soil, thereby improving the fertility of the ground.    In order for the plant to provide this nutrition to the soil, the top of the plant is either cut off or dug into the soil, and the roots remain there as well to break down, releasing the nitrogen. It is not advised that bulk organic astragalus be used to treat, prevent, cure or diagnose any disease or health issue due to lack of evaluation by the Food and Drug Administration.  It is advised that if you believe that you have a medical condition to promptly seek the advice of your health care provider.
